Lindy Hop Step Lists
for classes with Persephone
Here are samples of what we have been teaching recently, so you can look forward to what you are about to learn.  Sometimes, though, we change parts of a lesson plan during class, to accomodate the needs of the students present-- so we usually give out a more precise list on paper at the end of each series.  Use it as a template to write your own notes on, and you'll remember even better!

February 2011

Charleston: Rock step 1-2, kick step 3-4, kick 5-6, step 7-8

Travel: Rock step 1-2, follwer comes around to face leader 3-4, both travel across the room 5-6-7, leader opens up &8.

You can make the travelling silly by doing One Step, Peckin’,  or Crazy Legs.

Tuck turn: starts like previous move, but follower spins to their right 5-8.  We did it with only the leader’s right arm

Swingout: partners switch sides 1-4, and switch back 5-8

Barrel roll variation: from open position, follower comes toward leader as leader turns to his right.  Both turn back to back, leader reaches out with his right arm to catch follower back in closed.

Skip up: rock step 1-2, face partner and kick 3, step 4. Face forward and kick 5, travel 6, repeat as long as leader wants.   Hold on the last beat to have your correct foot ready for the next  move.

Then while you’re in closed, you can do Charleston, or travel, or do the tuck turn.

Underarm turn: in open position, rock step 1-2, partners come toward each other 3-and-4, as leader’s arm comes up.  Follower turns counter clockwise 5-6-7-and-8.

Double underarm turn: same as above, except leader’s arm moves faster and follower turns once 5-6, then keeps turning a second time 7-and-8.

Tuck turn travelling: Rock step 1-2, follwer comes around to face leader 3-and-4, leader pushes on 4 then lets go, chasing the follower as she turns clockwise 5-6-7-and-8.

Charleston: Rock step 1-2, kick step 3-4, kick 5-6, step 7-8

Swingout from closed: Both rock step 1-2, leader comes around in front of the follower 3-and-4. On 5 the leader lets go of the follower’s back and she steps past, narrowly missing him.  The two walk away from each other 6-7 and line up again and-8.

Swingout from open: Follower walks forward at the leader while he rock steps 1-2.  On 3 the follower turns 1/2 way around while the leader turns 1/4.  He comes around the other 1/4 to face her during 3-and-4 while she is in place.  Then the second half is the same as above.

Swingout with free spin: Counts 1 through 4 will be the same as above (either closed or open version), then on 4 the leader pushes the side of the follower’s back and lets go.  Depending how fast he pushes she will do a single or double turn 5-8.

Tuck Turn to Closed:1-4 is the same as above, but during 5-8 the leaderwalks counter clockwise around the follower, catching her in his right arm.

If you were in our intermediate Lindy Hop classes in previous years, and would like to be reminded of what you learned,
you are welcome to contact Persephone and she will send you the step list for that month and year.
Or better yet, give you a private lesson in those moves and others, to do away with that "rusty" feeling.
