Michael & Persephone
Bio & Photos
Michael and Persephone are in the San Francisco Bay Area, where Michael was one of the first in the current swing revival to offer regular Lindy Hop classes back in 1995.  They called him "Shag Daddy" because he is good at St Louis Shag, an unusual swing variation that uses kicks to fast music.  In 1997, after his previous dance partner wandered off and got married, Michael scooped up Persephone and they started a new class together.  Swing was getting a lot of atteniton in movies and media back then, and it wasn't long before they were booked teaching classes every day and night.  No group was too small or large, from the one-on-one private lessons, to the crowd of 800 people at the Cocoanut Grove. They travelled across the western US teaching and performing Lindy Hop, East Coast Swing, Balboa, and St. Louis Shag.  Movies, TV appearances, and many local performances kept them busy for most of 10 years, until Michael wandered off and got married.  Persephone still carries on with classes and private lessons, and you can still catch Michael out dancing on occasion.  They love to collect big band music, DJ at dances, and Persephone especially loves to choreograph group routines.  Here are some pictures of their history.
